Bucket list meme

Jill over at Universal Musings has some great answers to this quiz, here are mine. (X ) Shot a gun-  I had a man target posted over my bed when I was single and living alone. It had an absolutely fabulous grouping. You had to go through the bedroom to use the bathroom, no one ever seemed to notice it though. Even then I had an off beat sense of humor. For our 2nd date with my son’s dad, he took me target shooting. I was a better shot than him, I think that’s when he fell in love. (x) Gone on a blind date – my car pool partner in college set me up on a double date, her boyfriend paid too much attention to me, so I lost my space in her car. (x) Skipped school –  yup, but only in high school. I used to not go in the morning, then show up after lunch and talk the ...

Modem deficiencies-technical difficulties

Dear Readers, I have a couple of new posts almost ready to go. Unfortunately, the modem has been very uncooperative. First, both Husband and I were unable to even connect with the blog, though everyone else I asked had no problems. Resetting the modem seems to have cured that, but I can’t seem to upload any photos to my posts, which is holding everything up! So really am back, just having technical problems. regards, Theresa

Me Made May and some technical difficulties

Just a line to tell you all that I have several blog posts that I have been working on. The writing part is going along well, the hold-up is in the photos. I have either not taken enough photos, the photos are too blurry to use, or I still need to edit them.  I use an online editor and the internet slows way down when it’s warm, just like everything else around here. The other day it was a mind numbing 43ºC which is 109.4ºF, for the first time in a quite awhile I didn’t find the pool water too cool. Husband just walks into the pool like he’s taking a stroll, I dip my feet, then slowly work my way up to my waist. He says that the hot air makes the contrast stronger and I should just jump in. Like in so many things, he is probably right, but that doesn’t mean that I am changing my ways. ...

How to hyperlink in a comment

I thought I would share a tip today. How to hyperlink in a comment. I always think it’s cool when someone has a live hyperlink in their comment that you can just click on, don’t you? <a href=”http://thediypage.com”>LinkText</a> Copy and paste that piece of code into where you want the words to go. Then, delete “http://thediypage.com” and replace it with your link (I suggest copying and pasting your link for accuracy’s sake). Then, delete “LinkText” and enter in the words you want others to see – in my example comment below I have , “sign up to be notified by email when I update this blog”  (don’t use quotation marks). Just in case, you can  use the preview function if there is one, to make sure everything is correct before posting. In my comment section the hyperlink doesn’t show up in blue, but it’s there is you click on the words. On other blogs it’s more obvious. Some comment editors don’t ...

My voice, blog voices vblog meme

Leila from the Three Dresses Project just posted this vlog meme, My Voice. I thought it was really cool. I’m trying new things these days so I decided to give making a video a try. While my microphone works just fine with Skype it seems to be deficient when I use Movie Maker. First here is the list of words: aunt, route, wash, oil, theater, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, New Orleans, pecan, both, again, probably, spitting image, Alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, syrup, pajamas, caught The questions are as follows: What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house? What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball? What is the bubbly carbonated drink called? What do you call gym shoes? What do you say to address a group of people? What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs? What do ...

People change and so do blogs

¿What do I do all day? has been online since October 22, 2007. My very first post, Great Plans and Ambitions was a bit short. In it I announced my idea of creating an online plant encyclopedia. I never made the plant encyclopedia,my interests changed. In the six years that I’ve been blogging I’ve posted 884 times and received 5711 comments. I don’t count spam but I do count my own replies. I believe it’s important to answer comments, I even blogged about it. That post resonated with my fellow bloggers so much that I immediately followed it up with The Great Comment Debate. Husband and I have lived in Merida for close to a decade now, and while where I live influences many of the things that I do, it has become less of a focus for this blog. I’ve come to the realization that where I live my life is not as important as how I live my ...

Best blog post I’ve ever read about moving to a foreign country

A Moving Decision is probably one of the best thought our and well written blog posts that I have ever read about moving to a foreign country. Nancy Levin’s post totally resonates with me. I found myself nodding while I read the part about the phone company shutting off service to another ex-pat for non-payment. It’s the same here, if your bill doesn’t reach you, well, you’re still obligated to pay in a timely manner. Right now I am wondering if I need to go to CFE tomorrow to pay the electric bill or if I should wait a little longer in hopes our bill shows up. I think I’ll wait until Wednesday and pay it then. Nancy’s post is a must read piece for anyone thinking about pulling up roots and moving. Of course, she is writing about living in a small town in Ecuador.  Merida is huge modern city with a Costco, Sam’s Club and Home Depot, name ...
