How to hyperlink in a comment

I thought I would share a tip today. How to hyperlink in a comment.

I always think it’s cool when someone has a live hyperlink in their comment that you can just click on, don’t you?

<a href=”http://thediypage.com”>LinkText</a>

Copy and paste that piece of code into where you want the words to go. Then, delete “http://thediypage.com” and replace it with your link (I suggest copying and pasting your link for accuracy’s sake). Then, delete “LinkText” and enter in the words you want others to see – in my example comment below I have , “sign up to be notified by email when I update this blog”  (don’t use quotation marks).

Just in case, you can  use the preview function if there is one, to make sure everything is correct before posting. In my comment section the hyperlink doesn’t show up in blue, but it’s there is you click on the words. On other blogs it’s more obvious. Some comment editors don’t support this because of spam. However, I’ve found that most do.

  1. Interesting post. I just figured out how to do this in the body of a blog post. But if commenters use hyperlinks, they massively increase the odds of their comment landing in the spam box.

So I’ll just stick to my blog link, which has its own field anyway.

Where if you haven’t already, you should Google “New York Times no-knead bread. A great thing for a DIYer.

    • Hi Kim,
I don’t often include links in comments but once in awhile it’s handy. It just looks cleaner if it’s a hyperlink. Many spam filters will send you to “the folder” if you have more than 2 links in your comment. I check my spam daily before I send it on it’s way, just in case.

    • Oh, I forgot to answer this part. We don’t eat much bread anymore, but I have done the no-knead bread before me went grain free. it’s pretty cool.

  2. I added a new feature to the sidebar sign up to be notified by email when I update this blog what do you think?

    • I actually had someone ask for that right off the bat when I started my blog. And now I have followers I’ve never heard from nor know. Fascinating thing, this blogging.

      • Kim,
Blogging is really interesting. I started in 2007 with blogger and now that I am doing a wordpress blog it’s really changed things. I’m learning all sorts of new stuff.

It never occurred to me to before to have an email list, but several people asked me so I am exploring that option. I’m going with mailchimp . I had something else installed but mailchimp seems like a better option. I’m trying to make my RSS feed work better too.

        It’s a fun hobby.
