I feel so misunderstood- expanded version

¿What do I do all day? is a blog from a woman who retired to Merida, Mexico. The blog includes updates about gardening and sight-seeing, but learning to cook Mexican food is one of her passions.

I never knew that about myself! Did you? All this time I thought that cooking Indian food was my big favorite? Do I even have any Mexican recipes on my blog? I just checked, I have the mole incident and a recipe for enchilada sauce.
Husband asked me what prompted me to write the above  post.
I received an email from the authors of the list. In fact, this is my second email from them. The first was regarding Theresa’s Cooking Blog, their blurb said something about the Cauliflower Steamed with Whole Spices recipe. It’s a great recipe by the way, but it’s Indian in origin, not Mexican.
When I didn’t respond by putting their widget on my blog they removed my blog from the list.
I don’t mind trading links with someone, but to try to hoodwink me into thinking I have won an award so that I will link to their site is insulting. It’s up there with winning the Irish Sweepstakes or the Nigerian Bank Scam.
It didn’t help that the email came after one from “Facebook” telling me that my account had been hacked. The email instructed me to change my password to the more complicated one that they provided. Funny thing is I am probably the only person left on Earth who doesn’t have a Facebook page.

About Theresa

Born in New York City, I grew up in California, and have lived in 3 countries and 6 states. I'm a first generation Cuban-American who lives in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. I'm committed to living an abundant and creative life and helping others do so too through DIY!

  1. Barb, I am torn because La Primera has a FB page now with photos of La Nieta on it! I’m still inclined to not do it.

  2. No Facebook page for me, either. I have an aversion to their entire platform.

  3. Mikey, If you don’t have a facebook page, then I am in very good company indeed!

Jonna, I just doubled checked, I was wrong. My cooking blog is on another “culinary” websites under the 49 best Mexican Cooking blogs. It’s another one of those lists of blogs masquerading as a blog. What is sad is that there are some good cooking blogs on the list but they are lost among the non-cooking ones.

Brenda, I didn’t think of that! I assumed that they did a search with the words Mexican+food+recipe and did a short preview.Either way, I don’t want to play.

2ericc, nice pun! I don’t have much experience but I would assume that most bookies want to remain faceless. Or at least keep from being booked themselves.

Steve, don’t worry someone will send you an invite to place their button or tag. Maybe the Expat site?

  4. Woody Allen tells one of my favorite jokes: Two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of them says, “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one says, “Yeah, I know; and such small portions.”

I am starting to feel that way. I would hate to get the cooking blog invitation you are discussing. But, now, I am hurt I was not invited.

    Go figure.

  5. Maybe those of us who don’t have FB accounts should start our own internet group. We could call it FACELESS BOOKIES. Like the Procrastinators Club, we could bet against the likelihood of our own participation in such a silly club.

  6. Theresa: I got the same email from them and thought HUH??? Mexican cooking blog, don’t think so lol. I have posted some cooking stuff from time to time but not specifically Mexican food. I went and looked at their site and decided they were just trying to run up the views on their site by getting us to link to them.
Sorry no badge for them on my blog either.
I did notice lots of blogs that I read were posted on there so am wondering if they just went down someones bloglist on their blog and emailed everyone? Just a thought.

  7. I got the same letter and went to their site to see what they could possible say about me and Mexican cooking. The answer… not much. It will be interesting to see if they drop me when I don’t respond.

  8. Wrong about Facebook!

After a mutual friend got “hacked”, I opted out of that rat race because the rats were winning!

I do not have a facebook page!

  9. Norm, then Husband is very famous indeed. Thanks for the chuckle.I added to the post while you were commenting BTW.

  10. You know your famous when the media starts making things up about you.
