Too much sun

Running errands after my painting class is not one of my brightest moves. On the one hand, it’s easy to catch the 66 Iberica bus to C 57 x 56 y 58, on the other hand, 2:00 is bad time to be out and about in the Yucatan sun.

One of my last stops on the way home was the bank. Calle 65 x 62 y 64 has several banks located on it. The bank we usually use is the north side of the street, the atm machine inside an air conditioned chamber. Normally, we do our banking early in the morning, today, I arrived around three. Which is why I found myself on the south facing slowly baking wall in a long line wondering why I decided to get money on the quincena. I comforted myself with thinking since it was payday, the ATMs would have lots of cash available. Poor planning all around.

Arriving home hungry and crabby, I ate lunch around four, which is late even for us. All I had energy for was sitting on the sofa and listening to a podcast on busy-ness. At seven, I gave in to the inevitable and went to bed, fully expecting to wake up around dawn.
Waking well after dawn, I still felt groggy. I seem to have gotten my annual case of sunstroke out of the way early this year. I’ve written off today as being a waste and don’t plan on doing anything of consequence.

Here are two of my most recent paintings. I’ve been trying different things in my class.001003
Also here are some photos of what I have been sewing and the picture from the pattern. I wrote up my construction adventures in another post on the VPLL1912 blog.

  1. Yup, I can see that chicken doing that lol. Too funny what thoughts an image brings into your head, isn’t it?
I have been called crazy; but creative – not so much lol. thanks for being so nice.
Between us we could get some very odd stories going about our paintings lol.
Glad you are feeling better, have a great evening.

  2. Brenda, yeah, my one concern was putting the sleeves on wrong. So of course, I did it! LOL. I decided that it would be really hard to do, if the longer part went in the outside of the sleeve, but it actually went on the back of the arm. The sleeve underarm placement was different than what we are used to. It didn’t line up with the side seam, instead it was about 2 inches towards the center front. however, I know that seamline placement has changed some since then.
I love your story. Okay, on that line, the chicken got really mad at the rooster and threw eggs at him!Now she is upset because she did something really stupid because she was angry. Talk about a short story, complete with moral. ROFLMAO! You are so creative!
    I am much better now.

  3. I went and read your post about the blouse construction and couldn’t help feeling like that was something I would have done lol lol. I know it is not funny; but I can just see me doing it.
I get a kick out of your funky chicken, looks very “folk artsy”. Maybe she is angry cause she threw her eggs against the wall and they smashed lol. No, I haven’t been drinking I just have a strange mind lol.
Hope you are feeling beeter now.

  4. Merida Mikey, I seem to get too much sun every once in awhile. I’m not much for sunbathing though I like to get about 15 minutes of sun in the morning for the vitamin D.
I think of it as “Angry Chicken” but it is pretty funky. You can’t see the writing and other details very clearly but I have bird related sayings written on the painting too.

  5. I have similar problems with being in the sun for any extended length of time. Some of it is due to meds I take, but most of it is due to just the way I am. And, I have never been a beach person for that reason.

I like the pictue of the chicken the best! If you haven’t already titled it, may I suggest “The Funky Chicken”?

  6. I added a link to my post on the construction details. Assuming that most of my regular readers won’t care. You can find it at

  7. Brenda, That is exactly what I wanted it to look like! Someone just hanging out in the middle of no where just waiting.
The blouse is one of the 1912 patterns. I won’t be wearing it because I managed to put the sleeves on backwards! LOL…

Barb, I am feeling better, I’ll probably be fine by tomorrow.

  8. Oh no, Theresa. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

  9. I really like the painting of the man. To me he feels lonely/sad and/or very bored. Maybe he is waiting for his wife or a tow truck or a bus, lol. Anyway it really talks to me.
The blouse is pretty; but I couldn’t wear that style, it would make me look even more busty than I already am. Looks light and airy for summer though.
    Hope you feel better tomorrow.
